Linby Colliery Welfare 1 - 5 AFC

Despite a pitch change to a more difficult surface, a near-full strength Attenborough produced their most complete performance yet to comfortably see off previously unbeaten Linby Colliery.

Having dabbled at stages this season with three at the back and wing backs, Manager Mee employed the formation from the off to great effect. Simon Savage was a revelation allowed more attacking freedom down the right and, combined with the explosive Luke Smith on the left, gave the team a perfect balance.

Linby opportunities were kept to a minimum by a defence that is really beginning to gel. Model-pro Will Humphriss typically led the unit impeccably from his anchor-role in the middle of the trio and was admirably backed up by both Jack Smith and Reece Caine. Reece adding to what has been a very impressive start to the new campaign, while Jack bagged another goal as he demonstrated once more the physical boost he has given the side at both ends of the pitch.

Both Lewis Caine and Lewie Pearson played the full 90 minutes in the centre of mid-field and dominated the middle of the park with their tireless work-rate. And up front, Pursglove combined encouragingly well with the enigmatic Louis Smith. Louis is unpredictable at times but possesses all the attributes to be a real handful for opposition defences and deservedly scored our fourth goal, before the versatile and consistent George Cuesta-Sarris topped off the scoring.

  02/11/24 - League AFC 5 – 3 South Notts AFC Returning to league action on the back of seven straight wins in all competitions against a side yet to get a point on the board, it seemed hard to envisage anything but a comfortable home victory, but, as is the way of football, Attenborough were handed a real chastening in the first half by a South Notts side that upped their game in pursuit of what would be a memorable victory against the league leaders. It took just three minutes for the visitors to open the scoring, South Notts pouncing on a heavy touch by Jack Brownbill and freeing Takunda Mundirwa, who finished expertly to silence the home supporters.  19/10/24  - League  AFC 2 - 1 Cotgrave Development After three away victories on the road in recent weeks, Attenborough returned to the Strand full of optimism ahead of a clash with a Cotgrave side that had also started the season promisingly with three wins in their first four games.  Lacking the squad depth of the previous week, Graham Mee went for the same formation and almost identical starting personnel as last time out, the exception being George Cuesta-Sarris returning to the line-up at the expense of the absent Simon Savage.  Overnight rain had turned the pitch rather boggy in places which firmly placed the emphasis on stamina, something not ideal given the management team only had one substitute to call upon.  Attenborough got off to a flyer after Luke Smith was felled for a penalty in the opening couple of minutes and skipper Lewis Caine tucked the spot-kick away in front of the Trent End.
